Family-based Green Card

Who it is for
- A qualifying family relationship
- A suitable status held by the petitioner
- Financial sponsorship and no grounds of inadmissibility, or an available waiver
Documents
A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.
- A valid passport and copies of its pages
- A completed application form and recent photographs
- The approved I-130, civil status documents, the I-864, police certificates and the medical examination
- Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
- A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category
Application steps
- 1The petitioner files the I-130
- 2Once approved and a visa number is available, complete the NVC stage
- 3Complete the DS-260, upload the documents and take the medical examination
- 4Attend the immigrant visa interview
After arrival
- Pay the USCIS immigrant fee where required
- Receive your SSN and Green Card
- Follow the rules for keeping permanent residence
