Temporary visit B-1/B-2

B-1 is for permitted business purposes and B-2 for tourism, medical treatment and visits. These visas give no general right to work or to live permanently in the United States.

Who it is for

  • A temporary, permitted purpose of travel
  • Sufficient funds for the trip
  • The intention to leave the United States and convincing ties abroad

Documents

A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.

  • A valid passport and copies of its pages
  • A completed application form and recent photographs
  • The DS-160 and proof of purpose, finances, itinerary and ties to your permanent home
  • Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
  • A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category

  3. 3Pay the fee and book according to the rules of the chosen post
  4. 4Attend the interview and present the required evidence

After arrival

  • Observe the I-94 date, not just the visa validity
  • Do not work without separate authorisation
  • If your plans change, check the permitted procedure in advance
