Visitor visa / eTA

The entry document depends on your passport, how you travel and your status: most people need a visitor visa, while visa-exempt nationals flying in need an eTA. A visitor is often admitted for up to six months, but the border officer decides.

Who it is for

Documents

A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.

  • A valid passport and copies of its pages
  • A completed application form and recent photographs
  • Itinerary, invitation or accommodation, finances, work or family details and proof of a temporary purpose
  • Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
  • A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category

Application steps

  4. 4Once decided, present your documents at the border

After arrival

  • Respect the authorised period of stay
  • Do not work or study without the right to do so
