Study permit
Study lasting more than six months usually requires a study permit. You need a DLI, funds and in most cases a PAL or TAL; Quebec has its own CAQ.

Who it is for
- A Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution
- A PAL or TAL, or an official exemption; for Quebec, a CAQ
- Funds for tuition, your family's living costs and the return trip
Documents
A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.
- A valid passport and copies of its pages
- A completed application form and recent photographs
- The LOA, the PAL, TAL or CAQ, finances, your study plan, passport and the local checklist
- Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
- A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category
Application steps
- 1Check the DLI and whether the programme will qualify for a PGWP
- 2Obtain the LOA and the PAL, TAL or CAQ
- 3Apply for the permit and give biometrics
- 4If approved, enter with the letter of introduction
After arrival
- Collect the permit and check its conditions
- Study and make progress at the DLI named on the permit
- Work only if the permit carries the relevant condition
