For dual or school-based vocational training. German at B1 or above is usually required, along with proof of a training place and funds.

Who it is for
- A specific vocational training place
- German from B1 as a rule
- Sufficient training pay, or funds covering the difference
Documents
A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.
- A valid passport and copies of its pages
- A completed application form and recent photographs
- The Ausbildung contract or school confirmation, a language certificate and proof of funding
- Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
- A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category

- 3Apply for the national visa
- 4Obtain the training residence permit after arrival
After arrival
- A second job of up to 20 hours per week is allowed
- Meet the requirements of the training programme
- After completing the training, move to job seeking or a work residence permit
