Opportunity Card — job seeking
The Opportunity Card is issued for up to 12 months initially. It is open to recognised professionals or through the points system; in 2026 you must prove funding of €1,091 per month, taking permitted income into account.

Who it is for
- A qualification recognised in Germany, or meeting the basic conditions of the points system
- For the points route — German from A1 or English from B2, plus the required number of points
- Proven funds for the whole job-seeking period
Documents
A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.
- A valid passport and copies of its pages
- A completed application form and recent photographs
- Degree or qualification, language certificate, points calculation and proof of funding
- Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
- A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category
Application steps
- 1Check the first route — recognised professional; otherwise calculate your points
- 2Prepare your language and financial evidence
- 3Apply for the national visa or Opportunity Card
- 4Once you have an offer, switch to a work residence permit
After arrival
- Part-time work of up to 20 hours per week in total is allowed
- Short trial employment is permitted within the set limits
- Apply for a suitable work residence permit before the card expires
