The initial permit for a third-country worker is normally requested by the Spanish employer. Once granted, the applicant obtains a national visa.

Who it is for

  • Over 16 years old and no irregular stay in Spain
  • A contract with the employer and compliance with labour-market conditions or an applicable exemption
  • A qualification or licence where the profession requires one

Documents

A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.

  • A valid passport and copies of its pages
  • A completed application form and recent photographs
  • The contract, the employer's documents, your qualification and the decision granting residence and work
  • Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
  • A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category

Application steps

  3. 3Enter within the visa validity and start the employment and social security formalities
  4. 4Request the TIE within the set deadline

After arrival
