From 1 March 2026 many foreign nationals without permanent residence must first obtain a separate right to work for local employment or self-employment, and only then the applicable D1 visa or work residence permit.

Who it is for

- For a work residence permit — the turnover requirements for the employer or business
Documents
A basic preparation list. The competent authority creates the personal checklist based on citizenship and place of application.
- A valid passport and copies of its pages
- A completed application form and recent photographs
- The registration code or right to work, the contract or business documents, income, turnover and proof of lawful stay
- Proof of funds, accommodation and health insurance — where required
- A police clearance certificate, medical documents, translation and legalisation — if listed for the chosen category

- 4Apply for the residence card once the decision is made
